Post Graduate Institute of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (PGIVAS)

Post Graduate Institute of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (PGIVAS), is located at district place well connected with rail, road and Air in AKOLA town of Western Vidarbha Region of Maharashtra State. City is well known as it is a head quarter of one Agriculture University and it is famous as cotton city. The PGIVAS was establish in the year 1970 under administrative and financial control of Dr.Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, (Dr. PDKV, an Agricultural University), Akola, running Post Graduate Programmes in Eleven well equipped Departments. Consequent upon the establishment of Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University ( MAFSU) at Nagpur, in the year 2000, these all 11 departments were metamorphosed and started functioning as an independent constituent Institute of newly formed Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur, renamed as Post Graduate Institute of Veterinary and Animal Sciences ( PGIVAS), Akola.

Thus, presently this Institute imparts Post Graduate education (M.V.Sc.) in eleven disciplines and Ph.D. by course work in eight disciplines. In addition to this Twenty Dairy Management and Animal Husbandry Diploma Schools are also monitored by this Institute. PGIVAS, Akola, also have well developed & equipped

 

Poultry Farm, Purnathadi Buffalo Instructional Unit and Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC, Hospital) at Akola. Similarly. Deccani Sheep and Berari Goats Research Demonstration and Training Centre is maintained at CBF Borgaon Manju.
